🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Document that an idle exit ignores hijacked connections whose handler returned.
On http.StateHijacked, see releases the connection. After that, only the wrap hold counts the connection, and only while the handler runs. A common WebSocket pattern upgrades the connection, starts read and write goroutines, and returns from the handler at once. The gorilla/websocket chat example works this way. With that pattern, open drops to 0 while the hijacked connection is still in use. After IdleExit, fire ends the run. The process then exits and drops the live session.
Listening.IdleExit says the run ends "with nothing open". The CHANGELOG says "once nothing has been open". Both texts promise more than the tracker can deliver: the server cannot see a hijacked connection after the handler returns.
Fix this in one of two ways:
- State the limit in the
Listening.IdleExitdoc comment, in the CHANGELOG entry, and in theseecomment. Handlers that hijack must stay running for as long as the connection is in use. - Or add a hold/release API that handlers can call to keep the run open, for example a context value that
wrapsets.
📝 Proposed doc fix
-// see counts a connection from its new state until it closes or is hijacked.
+// see counts a connection from its new state until it closes or is hijacked.
+// A hijacked connection counts only while its handler runs, so a handler that
+// hands the connection to another goroutine and returns no longer keeps the run open.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Closes #83
What
Env.Listeningreads where a server listens: a Unix socket path, a TCP address or the host'sPORT, the first set winning.ServeListeningserves there with the same drain asServe. A socket it creates has mode 0600 from the start. Sockets need Linux.RemoteAddr. A request without one address gets 400. The header is dropped from every request.OverSockettells a handler that a request came over a socket.serveexits 0. A connection a handler takes over, such as a WebSocket, counts until it closes. A start whose server has no read timeout is refused, since one connection could then stay open forever.<socket>.lockwhile its socket exists.ServeListening, and CI vets gonsole for darwin and windows. Why
Downstream applications must run on shared hosting, where every account can reach every loopback port and idle programs get stopped.
Servestays as it is, so a program that keeps calling it sees no change.Testing Instructions
None by hand. CI runs every test, the socket tests on Linux.
